En un esfuerzo por fomentar una cultura ecoamigable, la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Cayey (UPR Cayey) estará ofreciendo diversos talleres como parte del denominado Mercado Agrícola Artesanal que se estará llevando a cabo este próximo sábado desde las 8:00 a.m. en el Parque de las Verdes Sombras.
A partir de las 9, habrá una clínica de salud en la que se harán pruebas de vitales, glucosa, colesterol y masa corporal. Además, se ofrecerá un taller de construcción de panderos y tambores por el artista Roberto Cortés, quien es artesano de estos instrumentos y ofrecerá una demostración del proceso de confección de panderos y tambores. El propio Cortés interpretará piezas musicales con los tambores y panderos.
También habrá talleres de huertos caseros, mosaicos, reciclaje y siembra. Los talleres de mosaico, reciclaje y siembra serán ofrecidos por la organización estudiantil de la UPR Cayey, Tri Beta.
En el taller de mosaico se usarán losetas que iban a ser desperdiciadas para crear una obra pictórica sobre una estructura de cemento, según informó en un comunicado Félix Velázquez, coordinador del Mercado Agrícola y Artesanal. Todos los talleres forman parte del Programa de Reciclaje de la institución.
La UPR Cayey cuenta con 14 cuerdas de terreno en las que se encuentran una variedad de árboles exóticos, nativos y otros en peligro de extinción y donde se ofrecen recorridos guiados.
“Durante los recorridos, las personas tendrán la oportunidad de ver cada especie de árbol y sus usos”, dijo Velázquez.
Finalmente, para quienes deseen hacer un acto de solidaridad, durante el mercado se estará haciendo un recogido de alimentos para el Almacén de Alimentos para la Comunidad, apoyado por la UPR Cayey.
